Read full description of the books:
Maria Olson Goins’ debut novel is a sexy, sparkling work of literary fiction. Straddling New York, London, Barcelona, the South Caucasus, and West Africa, Sushi in Liberia is the beginning of the story of Lira and Gabriel, two troubled souls who fall madly in love after a chance encounter one summer evening in war-torn Monrovia.
Against the backdrop of third world conflict and existential dislocation, this politically charged, modern love story is an entertaining, thought provoking, funny, and passionate journey of discovery that tests the bounds of family, love and trust.
Independent, man-eating, international aid worker Lira falls hopelessly for Gabriel, a brokenhearted American reporter on assignment in West Africa. One magical evening in Liberia sets in motion a passionate quest for true love and identity. Separated soon after by time, space, and their own particular anxieties, this novel traces their attempt to reconnect, and face up to their self-destructive demons.
Sushi in Liberia is the author's first novel.

Read information about the authorMaria Olson Goins was born a quadrilingual bookworm in Tokyo. She is convinced, despite being a half Russian and half American love product of the Cold War, that she is really a descendent of a lost tribe of tropical beach dwelling avocado eaters. She grew up in Japan, Germany and New York, surviving German schools throughout, and graduated with a First Class Honours BA in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford with a focus on Russian and German literature, and an MSc in International Relations at the London School of Economics.
Maria spent several years at a conflict resolution non-profit as a gender and security expert based in London, working with grassroots women’s groups in conflict zones around the world, and advocating to governments and policymakers to take the brutal realities of sexual and gender based violence into account.
Her love of books and digital media led her to a career change and relocation to NYC, to work for Audible in content acquisition and business development. She eventually left to manifest her dream of being a writer and social entrepreneur. Maria is now the CEO & Founder of LivLuna, a sustainable social shopping and content community that empowers fun fearless females to kick a** and save the world in style. LivLunaShop.com is LivLuna's eco fashion and natural beauty boutique.
