Read full description of the books:
Thumbelina is a classic folk tale that tells the story of a tiny young girl who is no taller than a thumb. This young girl sets off on a series of adventures in which she meets a variety of animals. She continually escapes arranged marriages with animals she has nothing in common with until she befriends a bird and is flown to a land filled with people just like her. It is here that she marries a king and finds happiness.
Although I enjoyed the book I felt that it was a bit lengthy and seemed to drag on at points. Aside from this small flaw I liked the book. The characters were interesting, and the plot was intriguing. I also really enjoyed that the story was set up as a series of interconnected mini adventures, this allowed me to see various aspects of Thumbelina’s life. While I cannot see myself directly using this book in the classroom I would love to include it in my library. It would be perfect for students interested in fairytales, animals or adventure.
