Honestly, I like the way Benefiel writes her characters. I love their relationships and can feel what they feel. I like her story weaving skills a lot as well. The three things that didn't bother me as much in the first book but unfortunatly annoyed the hell out of me in the last two...
1. Her grammar. Wow. Is it terrible. I wasn't an A student, no, but I did grow up with a Mom who corrected me a lot. I had a hard time getting past it. I hate when people in general use "I" instead of "me" because they THINK it s/b "I". As in "He called Avery and I over..." Look it up. It isn't that hard. As an author, I'd think this would be the first thing you'd want to know so you don't come off as uneducated.
Also, the use of past and present forms in a sentence. She switched constantly when a person was talking. Hire an editor?!? Actually take some writing classes?!?
2. I was confused frequently over who was speaking at the time. It was hard to follow and therefore annoying having to re-read everything.
3. The pace. I don't know if I'm upset because she explains things too little or because she just writes about silly little information we really don't need to know. Such as where people sat on the bus. It was totally inconsequential. She does this a lot- worse so in the last book. The way she writes makes some scenes (always the endings) come off as bing, bang, boom and done!
Really though, for the low price I got these books- they are fun reads. They're very quick and enjoyable. Everyone gets happy endings and the relationships feel real- that being what seems to draw me most to books. I liked the series a lot. It was just those annoying things that stopped the last two books from being four stars for me.
